Finally Friday!

{1} Rachel Zoe for A Pea in the Pod

In the words of the great fashion stylist and designer, I. Die. I'm SO bummed out that I won't get to partake in any of this amazing pregnancy line, all I can hope is that she is still designing for APTP when I'm pregnant again!  For those of you who are pregnant - get on over to A Pea in the Pod and check out this line! Here are my favorites:

{2} Lilly Pulitzer Look Book is up on Target.com

I know this is going to be on EVERYONE'S Friday posts, but oh well. Read it here too :)

I already have my eye on a pile of things, and will be ready to purchase as soon as its available. And, since my child is going to be up at all hours of the night, I will most likely be awake when it all goes live online :)

{3} Honest Company Belly Balm

I bought this as an impulse buy at Destination Maternity when I was about six months pregnant. So far I have not noticed any stretch marks, but I have noticed that my stretching skin is drier and itchier than normal. This balm is the consistency of Vaseline and so it only takes a thin layer to cover your entire stomach.  I usually use baby oil right after I take my showers on my stomach etc (basically anything that is growing larger than normal) and then use belly balm before I go to bed  or days when I just feel like my skin is drier. Since I didn't have to endure winter during my pregnancy, I didn't have to fight the dry skin nearly as much as many do - so this might be great for those of you who are up north!  It's a tad pricey, but I absolutely love it. It absorbs rather easily, and best of all it's from the Honest Company - so you know its all natural, no chemicals.  For those of you are scared off by the price tag of $15.95 for 3.5 oz, then I would definitely recommend using baby oil after you shower, and then Eucerin lotion (I use the Calming Cream, which is super thick). My dermatologist recommended that my mother use this lotion on us as babies, and throughout my life I've used it.

{4} Postpartum bathing suits, y'all.

So, throughout this pregnancy I've rocked bikinis and it just hit me that post baby, that probably wouldn't be the best idea. My husband's entire family is visiting us in May (a month postpartum) and rented a house in Palm Beach about a block from the beach. It hit me that I wouldn't have anything to wear on the beach that was not completely inappropriate for a person who JUST gave birth 3-4 weeks before.  Pre-pregnancy I got on a HUGE Brazilian bikini kick - maybe its a Florida thing? I've literally spent the last year running around South Florida with half my rear hanging out. I'm all about owning your body, but this rear is not in quite the same shape it was 10 months ago. (sadly.) So, for hte last week, I've been searching for a bathing suit - either one piece of tank set. Moms out there - any suggestions??

Five Weeks Pregnant in Islamorada                          35 Weeks Pregnant in Palm Beach

{5} Magnolia Homes - Chip and Joanna Gaines

My latest favorite show is Fixer Upper on HGTV. I absolutely love Chip and Joanna Gaines, and the work that they do on all of the houses. Joanna has great style and has given me great ideas about our future home (hypothetically, of course, we're still renting for now). I recently came across their online store Magnolia Homes and just love the accessories and home goods on it. I highly recommend you check it out!

That's it for me this week...

Bumpdate: 38 Weeks

This week marks the big 3-8 and this baby is officially 'to term'. I can't believe its already here, and we're officially on Baby Watch 2015!

Skirt: Pea in the Pod Secret Fit Belly Pencil Skirt / Shirt: French Connection/ Pea in the Pod  (sold out, similar here )/ Necklace: Kenneth J Lane (sold out)

How Far Along? 38 weeks

Size of Baby: 6.2-9.2 lbs; 18.9-20.9 inches

Gender
:  all boy!

Maternity Clothes:
Yep...although the dress in this weeks progress shot down below is actually non maternity! I was so excited it fit, I had to wear it. But really, the ultra-stretchy side ruched maternity clothing is made for those bellies...this dress was NOT.

Nursery: We aren't really doing a 'nursery' yet, but for now we've got our study all set up for diaper changes and rocking, and the  bassinet by our bed.  Clothes are all washed and folded and bags are packed!

Beckett's books by the glider...
Movement: Still going wild - despite the lack of space. Occasionally when I'm lying down at night it feels like his feet get hooked under my rib cage -- sometimes I worry he might break something! (that actually happened to a friend of mine...) He's dropped down to a zero head station but that hasn't stopped him from moving around as much as possible!

Sleep: I spoke too soon last week - this week hasn't been so great in the sleep department. I've woken up once every night the last few nights to go to the bathroom, but luckily go right back to sleep. The good news is I still haven't lost my ability to immediately fall asleep - I pray I never lose that!

Cravings: Cake and Chick-fil-a frosted lemonade. I don't know why I want cake, but man I really want it. I've wanted it the last few days, but I've managed to restrain myself. The Chick-fil-a - well I've manage to resist ONLY because they are all TOTALLY out of my way. Luckily for my thighs, I neither live nor work near any CFA, and feel like getting on 95 and driving 5 miles for a craving is a tad excessive.

Symptoms: Sore hips, but that's about it. I have felt pretty much the same that I always feel, sans moving baby in my abdomen. Rings are still on, which is a good sign! The only major drawback I've had these last few months are burst capillaries up and down my right hand, arm, and chest. Lots of little red marks all over my arm might not sound that bad - but I'm pretty sure they are not going away (I had a few pre-pregnancy) and I'll have to get laser treatments to fix it. :(

What I Miss: Tequila. I am a tequila girl, and I miss my BFF.

Weight Gain: 26-29 lbs ... not 100% sure where I started.

Workouts: ha! yeah I fell off the wagon. Oh well...at least I didn't get the cake?

Here are some update shots since my last 30 week Bumpdate....

(perhaps I should add 'procrastination' to my symptoms list...I still haven't taken that black and white suit to the dry cleaners! I just started to take it down for my update pictures...)

Friday Five: Pregnancy Edition

I decided to change up my "Friday Five" routine a little bit, and make it 5 things I've learned about pregnancy.  I'm about to enter my 38th week, and things are slowly but surely progressing and I feel confident we that there's a good chance this little guy might make his debut a few days early. (We'll see, if he's anything like his father, he will wait until the last possible minute).

For most of my life, pregnancy and childbirth has ranked right up there with sky diving as my all time worst fears. No, really. I've never been a "baby person" - I'd much rather cuddle with a puppy or any other baby animal. I don't really get enthralled with babies, and the smaller they are, the less I generally want to do with them. I don't mind toddlers and kids - but babies? Babies terrify me. I have a feeling that I can't be the only woman out there with similar aversions - and that is what this post is about. My entire life, I've heard the horrors of pregnancy. Starting with how that baby actually makes it into this world. (Seriously, why can't we just lay eggs like birds?) And, once you're finally over the idea of where that child will be exiting - then everyone you know starts telling you about the horrific things that happen to you and your body while pregnant. (And people wonder why I was scared ??)

The thing is, no pregnancy is 'normal'. Everyone is different. But, I thought I might give my top five misconceptions about pregnancy in the hopes that it might calm your nerves a little. If nothing else, I hope to balance out some of the horror stories :).  Again, this is just MY experience and this is not to discount the challenges that others faced - I know I've had many friends who went through the ringer for 10 months.

1. You're Going to Get HUGE.

You will get bigger. That's a fact. Not all of us are the body builder model that is sporting what appears to be a beer gut at 30 weeks. (ok, pretty much none of us) But, getting bigger doesn't mean you're going to be a beached whale. I can touch my toes. Seriously. I can shave my legs. I get up and down off of the floor without help, and when I lay on the examination table at the doctor, I can sit up without help. I can even wear some pre-maternity dresses and tops (depending on the cut). I measure in the 'normal range' and have gained somewhere between 26-29 lbs. (My pregnancy was kind of a surprise so I'm not 100% what I weighed before...at 7 wks I was 130. I'm usually in the 127-130 range so that's what I"m working from.) Now, as I've said before, some of us will have 10 lb babies. Some of us have husbands that are 6'6" - there's no way around a large bump in some cases. But, just know, it's not always the case.

*Note: I don't know how I got lucky enough to be as mobile as I am, but I can say that from day one, I have not allowed pregnancy to stop me from doing ANYTHING. I was crawling under the christmas tree to water it, decorate it, take it down etc etc - I've been on my hands and knees scrubbing floor boards - I didn't let anything stop me from doing what I needed to do. It's not proven, but I think you can do what ever you tell yourself you can do. Pregnancy isn't a disability...don't treat it like one.

2. You're Going to Feel Like Crap 24/7.

So the first trimester can be a doozey. Some of us get sicker than others - and even when you have a 'mild' case of morning sickness you'll still think it's the worst thing ever. I was convinced I'd be a really angry pregnant person - but looking back (I hope others would say this too...) I feel like I've been relatively laid back about it. And I'm not a laid back person - AT ALL. In the beginning when your hormones go crazy, you will be a little off. You may get your feelings hurt SUPER easy. You may cry when you hear "Danny's Song" on the radio. You might end up having a blow out fight with your husband over who should have let the dogs out. (Not drawing on personal experience at all here...) But, once your body adjusts, to flood of estrogen, things will even out. And, while you're still a tad more sensitive (those Hallmark commercials...man) you really will start to feel normal again.

3. Your entire body will swell.

I might regret writing this. But, I haven't had a bit of swelling. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Rings? Still on. Ankles? Totally fine. Face? Just the same. I've got no idea if its dumb luck, or if its because I don't eat too much sodium or if its because I drink enough water - no idea. But good news, it hasn't happened. Yet. #TwoWeeksToProveMeWrong

4. Your Feet Will Grow (or other body parts).

I have big feet. I'm a solid 9 or 9.5 and sometimes I've bought size 10 shoes. I could NOT afford to a) replace my shoes b) have my feet look any bigger. This might have been one of my top fears of pregnancy. Then,  there was someone I knew whose nose literally doubled or tripled in size. There is probably only 1 organ that we all wouldn't mind getting a little bigger - and we all know what I'm talking about about. (And, if you're a Kim K fan - maybe you might like for your rear to be bigger as well!) But good news, nothing out of the ordinary grew this pregnancy.

5. You'll Lose The Ability to Sleep Through the Night.

Maybe I'm just genetically a good sleeper. There are nights I sleep better than others, but for the most part, I've slept like a baby (pardon the pun) for the entire time. Sometimes I have get up and pee, but some nights I don't wake up at all. The snoogle is a big help for me because I LOATHE SIDE SLEEPING. I'm a back sleeper all the way. (Recently I discovered that despite my best efforts, I apparently sleep on my back a lot still. Oh well, I try.) The bladder thing can be crazy depending on where your baby sits in your body, but sometimes I just make him move by tickling my left side and magically the urge goes away.  Or I roll over. Problem solved.

I would never describe pregnancy as a 'breeze' - it definitely does require some adjustments. Some of them are harder than others (the whole out of breath things was tough on me). I clearly have not yet endured the hardest part of the entire process but from what I hear that part is rather short lived and pales in comparison to the result. I hope that this in some ways has calmed your nerves, or maybe makes you feel more ready to take on the challenge of growing a person. Just know, that you can do it. You never know how strong and resilient you are until you have to be. Becoming a mom is crazy surreal experience (so far anyway) and even though baby Beckett isn't here yet, I feel like I know him already.  Oddly enough, I think I'm actually going to miss his relentless kicking and movement once he's out. I will definitely miss how silent he is :)

Have a great weekend!

30 Week Bumpdate

As promised, here is the 30 week 'bumpdate' on Baby Beckett!

30 Weeks
Weight Gain: Haven't checked in a couple weeks but somewhere near 20 pounds

How Far Along: 30 Weeks

Size of Baby: Size of a hot house cucumber (I assume they mean lengthwise??) About 15.2- 16.7 inches long and between 2.5-3.8 pounds!

Gender: A very active boy!

Movement: Just like I imagine his Daddy was as a child, he is a very active! Last week I experienced hiccups, which was a rather crazy feeling, I had to have a mommy friend explain to me what it was!  I think he is sitting very low and far back, as he tends to spend his days beating on organs that I am unable to identify, but assume to be part of my lower digestive track (if you catch my drift).

Sleep: Sleeping great, and with the help of the snoogle, have managed to stay on my side or some variation of it.

Workouts: Not really happening so much...but when it does, I do Tracy Anderson Pregnancy Project or general workouts at the gym (lunges, stationary bike, dead lifts with light weights, squats etc)

Maternity Clothes: For the most part...The shirt I'm wearing in my 30 week pic is actually a non-maternity dress...Today I'm wearing a non maternity sweater dress - so it just depends, really! Pants are pretty much always maternity though. (Except my Victoria's Secret fleece sweatpants...the boyfriend fit is perfect for the belly, and I really want them in about 10 more colors).

Symptoms: Not to be one of those annoying pregnant girls, but I don't really have anything to report. Besides the weird movement in my stomach, I feel pretty normal. I have had some skin issues, an increase of capillary marks showing up on my chest and arms (had this pre-pregnancy now its just worse - its phenomenal, really). Not gonna lie though - I'd take swelling any day over having the weird skin rash that will likely NOT go away.

Cravings/Aversions: Nope. I honestly have gone right back to my normal eating habits. By the time I got through the sickly part of pregnancy (at about 14-16 wks) I was back to eating just 3 meals a day - same portions etc. I haven't been super hungry at all! I have been indulging in more dairy/milk as of late. My pregnancy has somehow cured my minor lactose intolerance, so I'm enjoying all the milk I can for now! I did find out that I am anemic, so I've used that as an excuse to eat as much beef as I can.

Missing Most: Sleeping flat on my back. My flat tummy. (But I LOVE my nice nails :) ) I don't really miss anything, as I haven't really deprived myself during this pregnancy. My doctor and I both have a pretty laid back approach to pregnancy and so I generally haven't changed my diet besides drinking regularly.  Once I got used to not having that evening glass of wine, I was over it -- that was really the toughest part.

Side Note: One lesson that I have learned while pregnant is that there really is no "safe" foods. If you're going to eat out (and face it, you will) you're going to run the risk of being exposed to something that might make you sick. Two weeks ago, I was served TOTALLY RAW chicken at Buffalo Wild Wings. Thank God I could see it before I put a single bite in my mouth. It just goes to show that you can stress all day long about whether or not that sushi roll will make you sick, and then have end up being served something 'safe' like fried chicken that just so happens to be raw in the middle, and get salmonella. That's just my non-medical opinion - but always, always, always consult your doctor for his/her opinion.

Nursery: So about that.... I might be the ONLY mommy to be on the planet that's not really getting into this. I ordered my glider from Bellini, and I have a bassinet and an assortment of 'must haves'. However I've yet to figure out where any of it will go. I started a small organization project on Monday...you'll see a post about it soon...

Hubby: He might be the most excited one of all, and tells me almost daily that he can't wait for the baby to come!

Now, we just have to settle on a middle name, because we're down to 69 days and still in a gridlock....

Here are some progress shots from along the way....

(NOTE: Sorry about how crazy the pictures are lined up, I couldn't get them to center properly and so I gave up. Next thing on my list is to learn how to make photo collages for blogs...)

Finally Friday!

I'm aware it was a short week. I'm also aware that most people don't 'get' MLK day off...however, this 4 day week has yet somehow been so. incredibly. long.

So, in celebration of the end of the longest short week ever, here is my Friday Five.

{ONE}

Lilly Pulitzer Planners

I've got a ton of dates and things to remember this year between Junior League, and life in general, so I decided to get a planner for 2015. And, not just any planner, a Lilly one. Just because it makes me happy. (and because I've been DYING to buy a Lilly sundress since September...she really needs a maternity line).

{TWO}

New Stationery!

This week I finally got my new stationery. I haven't ordered a set since I got married, and I'm just about out of it. Crane's stopped carrying the print that I used before (not cool) so I had to start from scratch. I bought 2 styles - I'm IN LOVE with one, and ok on the other. I'm not sure everyone else out there gets the importance of nice personalized stationery. It might be my favorite thing on the planet. My sister just got engaged and I immediately started strategizing how much 'maiden name' stationery she would need, and then how much married stationery she would need. She told me she likes to get the clearance packs at Michael's for $8. Dagger. Through. The. Heart. (I mean really.) I think its fun to have pretty personalized stationery, but I think it also says a lot to hte person that you are giving it to. Not only did you take the time to personally thank the person, but you chose to do it using stationery that you clearly thought a lot (and perhaps spent a lot) about. Maybe it's just me. It might be. But if I could letterpress every piece of paper I own, I would.

{THREE}

KaBoom! Playground Project

KaBoom! is a nonprofit organization that works with other groups to provide 'grants' in the form of playgrounds.  Palm Beach County is one of the said recipients of one of these grants and this week we have been working on prepping the site for the new playground build day on Saturday! The neat part about this project, is that it completely involves the community. Our Parks staff could easily install a playground with 20 guys in one day. Instead, this project has about 200 community volunteers come together and take ownership of their neighborhood park, and build the playground with the help of our staff and other construction volunteers. I'll be sure to add some pictures of the build day!

{FOUR}

Maternity Jumpsuits

I'm not sure if you noticed in yesterday's post, but I totally wore a maternity jumpsuit to my baby shower. I wanted something that was fun and trendy (and not another stretchy tshirt and leggings, or another stretchy tube dress) It didn't always photograph as well as I *think* it looked in person, but I still loved it nonetheless. I bought at Asos on sale for $28.43. So, if any of you pregnant ladies are looking for something stylish that has the comfort of a onesie, this is your outfit. One note - I think it would have been cuter had mine been a tad smaller - but oddly enough this ran large. I bought the size 6 the model was wearing (which usually is small on me, their sizing is super tiny) but I should have probably gotten a 4. I didn't receive it until 1 day before my flight, so I took a risk and wore it slightly big. (For reference, I'm typically a 2 in most american sizes/brands - in Asos I'm usually a 4 or 6)

{FIVE}

Girl Scout Cookie Time!

Yesterday I caught wind of a Girl Scout Mama in my office. Mothers of Girl Scouts ALWAYS have cookies at work, and this lady got me the hook up. I've already eaten most of a box of Samoas..(turns out that's about 980 calories down the hatch in an hour) and hid a box at work. Then I took 1 Samoa, and 1 Thin Mint home. Stephen doesn't understand my sweet tooth. :)

That's it for me this week...what are your Five this week?

Jon Stewart does it again

I saw this video on MSNBC's Morning Joe, and I literally laughed out loud. Bravo Jon.

I've always known America has it wrong when it comes to working pregnant women, but to have this come from Nancy Pelosi is just crazy to me.

Enjoy!

Bumpdate: Halfway There! 20 weeks

20 weeks (and sporting a real sweater for today's polar vortex chill - it'll be 60!)
This picture (left) was taken in the morning, when I think my bump is much smaller looking - typically by the end of the day (to me) it looks SO much larger...see the picture on the right  was taken last night:

Is it just me? Am I being weird?

How Far Along: 20 Weeks

Size of Babe: 10.2 oz and 6.5 inches

Gender: baby boy

Symptoms: Starting to notice indigestion/heartburn (never had that before!) and phantom abdominal pain ( I think whenever he hits a growth spurt?! No idea.) I always sit cross legged or on my legs and lately I've noticed they go to sleep MUCH easier. Also, I'm usually prone to sitting in a very slouchy-curled-up-in-chair type of manner and the child has decided he hates that. So that can be painful.

Weight Gain: Officially - I'm waiting for the doctor's scale. Mine says almost 10 lbs. Surely it is lying.

Loving: Chickfila, Pizza, lemonade

Loathing: the size of my stomach, when looking at the clothes I can't buy/wear. (The sales right now are out of control!)

Wedding Rings: Yep

Belly Button: still flat

Movement: Constant since early in week 16. Especially after I eat. It's starting to get violent.

Maternity Clothes: Definitely with pants, but still wearing some normal tops. Turns out I wear my pants very small...and gaining even 5 lbs sized me out of them!

Nursery: Still undecided on which fabrics to use for which pieces, but I'm close! We aren't putting a nursery in our rental (not really enough space) because we plan on leaving it a few months after he is born. So for now I'm just making plans and gathering what I think I want!

Best Part of the Week: Thursday I have my anatomy exam, since I already know the sex (thank god for modern medicine - we found out at 12 weeks) I'm excited to get to see what he looks like now!

Thing I miss the most: Going out and having drinks with my girlfriends. Junior League meetings aren't quite as much fun anymore :( My abs and general fitness. Being lazy is not as much fun as I thought it would be...(P.S. Tracy Anderson is still a little challenging, but she is MUCH easier on you at the 19-20 week mark)

So that's my half way point Bumpdate! I don't think much changes from week to week, so you probably won't see another one of these until I'm about to pop :)

Making way for baby: Registry finds

So here are my Thoughts for Thursday with Home of Malones...

On Sunday, I started my registry. Ok, so really I started one 4 months ago at Pottery Barn before anyone even knew I was pregnant -- but it mostly has all kinds of impractical adorably expensive items (that I most likely will never need) on it. That was before I spent my days becoming an expert on everything there is to know about changing a diaper, clothing a baby, feeding a baby, and generally keeping it alive. (Note: I still know absolutely nothing.) However, I have the good fortune having great friends and family that have sent me immensely helpful tips on what I need to get, and what I should avoid. (So, now I just look like I know what I'm doing. Don't let the registry fool you, I don't).  My matron of honor is a mother of two, and suggested that I start off with a few books - but one in particular I'm going to talk about today.

Initially I thought this book was about sales. (What a GREAT premise for a book, right?) It kind of is but mostly isn't. What this book is great at is telling you what things are worth the money, and what things aren't. Moreover, it gives you a rundown of the differences in brands of EVERYTHING. Literally, today I read an entire section about onesies (yes, onesies) and the types of material, the sizing differences, the pricing, and how they rate. I even found out that someone gave me a super nice set of PJs as a gift - I had no idea! I tried reading this before I really go into shopping for  baby, and I found it really overwhelming. I think its pretty helpful to look up whatever item you're ready to purchase, and then read what they've got to say about it. This book is updated regularly, so keep an eye out for the most up to date version.

So far in my quest to complete a registry I've stumbled upon a few items that I think are going to be great to have when baby arrives. I may be wrong. I'll let you know.

1. Adan and Anais  -  I really love everything that this brand makes. I just want it all. I especially love the bamboo cotton blankets. Again, no idea if I will feel the same way when baby is here, but those blankets make me want to crawl in bed and pass out. They are the bomb.com. My mom bought this little elephant lovee for Baby D, and I can't wait to use it... (I'm on a real elephant kick these days).

How stinkin' cute is that?!

2. Halo Bassinet - I saw this at Baby Furniture Plus Kids  when I was home in Greenville last month and I was super impressed. This thing pretty much does everything but change and feed your baby. It is designed to be easily adjusted to be flush to your bed, or even rest on the edge of the mattress. One side of the bassinet easily folds down making it easier to lay baby down, and pick him up. It has several features including a feeding timer, several lullaby settings, a nightlight, and a vibrate option. It easily swivels so that you can get in and out of bed without having to move the entire bassinet. Check out this video:

I'll keep you posted any other products I come across that I think are pretty awesome...and then of course, let you know if they are all they are cracked up to be in about...5 months (yikes!)

Making way for baby: Nursery decor (and I need your help!)

You may recall about a month ago that I won a 4 piece bumperless baby bedding set (say that 5 times fast!)  from Liz and Roo Fine Baby Bedding. While I SO excited to pick out my bedding set, I must admit that I am totally overwhelmed by all the adorable options! This is where you come in. I have managed to narrow down my favorite fabric, and now I just need to determine which ones will use for the rail cover, crib skirt, and crib blanket. I know that I will not use the crib blanket in the very beginning, so I am leaning towards using on of the more 'coordinating' patterns for the blanket.

Here are the swatches I love the most:

(L to R) easton geometric print, houndstooth, and suzani

The easton print does have the seafoam/blue color on it, and its on the very edge of this swatch (which I'm trying to show here...)

Here are a few stock photos so you can see how Liz and Roo have styled these patterns.

monogrammed houndstooth pillow on top of the suzani blanket

Crib skirt in houndstooth

rail cover in suzani, blanket in suzani, and skirt in houndstooth

blanket in suzani

rail cover and skirt in houndstooth, and blanket in suzani

Easton print blanket

A few thoughts about each of these...

Although it does not really appear to match - all three fabrics have the same blue/green in them. (Some lighting makes the suzani look really blue). I don't think I want my rail cover and blanket to match. While in Greenville a few weeks ago I put together the fabrics in one ensemble that I'm not sure I love any more, but here it is:

Excuse how messy it looks, we were using a blanket as a skirt and a skirt as a 'blanket' in our staging...

I feel like the suzani print is what ties the 3 prints together the most, which makes me think if the blanket were not with the set, it might look awkward. This led me to making the rail cover in the suzani instead of the blanket, the houndstooth as the skirt, and the easton as the blanket. What do you think? I'm open to suggestions!!

XO,
M
