Nursery Reveal

What seems likes YEARS ago, I promised to do a nursery reveal for Beckett. It has taken us 10 months, but its done (almost). Sure, I have a few touches here and there. But for the foreseeable future, it's done. I gave up on several ideas when my husband pointed out that they might not be terribly sustainable. Apparently, he doesn't think that 16 year old Beckett wants bunny knobs on his closet doors. I think they would have grown on him...but I guess spending $80 on Anthropologie woodland creature knobs (that require bolt cutting -- important note to self, that's a job) wasn't the best investment.

I tried hard to take really great pictures. But, I had a 10 month old crawling through 90% of the shots, pulling toys off shelves, and generally attempting to kill himself by eating anything he could get his hands on. I don't know how I've managed thus far. So, take these pictures as face value. They aren't great photography. They aren't artistic. The sleepsack is slung over the bed where I left it. And I"m pretty sure there was some dried poop on the rug. Welcome to mommyhood.

I will add links to products as I have time... but for now, here are the pictures!

Skip Hop Mobile (see review here) - and take a gander at that previous wall color!

So this fan. It is supposed to be a knock off of the MinkAire fan that costs $299 (seen here). This fan is only $169 from Lowes. The review said that the light was dim, but we paid no mind. I mean, how dim could it be. Oh, you'd be surprised just how dim this light is. I think the zebra night light rivals it in wattage. This fan is for looks ONLY. We will probably get several lamps in here, or can lights at some point and use just the fan. For future reference, we will just bite the bullet and get the expensive fan. (Because, once you install it, there's no way you're taking it down to return it...right? #lazy #darkroom).

Oh Joy!

I am apparently way behind on this one...but have you seen the blog "Oh Joy!"? It's amazing. Joy, is amazing. Her home, once featured in Better Homes and Garden is full of bright color, modern touches, and really embodies her personality. It just so happens that Joy is now collaborating with Target, and selling THE MOST adorable baby nursery items.

First, let's talk about Joy and her adorable house. To see the Better Homes and Garden spread click HERE.

My favorite pictures:

I want those chests SO bad - but she got them on Craigslist. Someone needs to make these. (I'm looking at you, Target).

I really want those lamps.

Kids and style. Can they really coexist?

“Before I had Ruby, parents told me I’d have to put foam corners on everything and get rid of anything decorative,” says Joy, who became a mom in October 2011. “Sure, some changes need to be made for safety, but I don’t think having a baby means I need to lose my style or the rooms I love.”

Love it? Good, now, let's talk Target.

Cute, huh? #boughtit

For the most part her stuff is girly, but I purchased the crib sheet and I am going to try to make it work for my boy nursery!

To purchase any of this adorable Oh Joy collaboration go to your local Target (or buy online!)

Copy Cat Design

I know you all think I'm a total slacker when it comes to home decor progress blog posts. But really, I just take that long to get it all done. I keep seeing everyone's posts as they move from room to room and I'm in awe, really. Since moving into our new house in July, I've managed to paint and hang 4 pictures in Beckett's nursery. It doesn't mean I'm not working, it's just slow and steady. But I promise, it's happening.

Lately I've been looking for a piece of furniture to store toys and general junk in Beckett's room. I came across this cubby unit -- which I love. It's from Restoration Hardware, so of course,  I love it. It also costs $299. Of course it does. So, I could probably just spring for the shelves and be done with it. But, what's the fun in that?

I've been scouring the internet to find something like this, which a fraction of the cost. So far I haven't found much, which is probably why RH can charge so much. But here is what I have found:

Sonoma Rustic Wire 9-Cubby

This unit is $215...not quite as discounted as I'd like (especially seeing as the black version at RH is on sale for $224 right now).

Has anyone seen a piece that looks similar to this?

Look For Less: Nursery Hack

Since Beckett's room is no longer a shade of electric blue, and a beautiful blank slate, I have been in a frenzy to get it decorated. He's already 7 months, nearly 8, and I've been itching to put his nursery together. In my research I've come across several nurseries with the below animal prints. I tracked them down to Restoration Hardware Baby.

There are dozens of baby animal photos available, and there is almost no other print that I've seen that compares. Here's the rub: the price. For the low low price of $199 EACH you can own one of these. Well, no surprise that I could not stomach paying $800 on nursery art.

I did some additional digging and it turns out that Sharon Montrose (the photographer) sells the photos both framed and unframed.  Today and tomorrow you can take advantage of their holiday sale - buy 3 get 1 free! You can buy an 8x10 print unframed for $25 (or 4 for $75 with this promo) and then purchase a matted frame on Amazon.com for $15 (depending on what kind of frame you want).

I'm so thrilled to have gotten these prints at such a great price, and can't wait to show you the finished product!

Happenings...

We FINALLY got a painter and they started this week. Wohoooo! I don't think I've ever shared pictures of my upstairs but I've tried to snap a few 'before' pictures as the guys are working. In the grand scheme of 'bad room colors' we really lucked out with this house. The entire house is in light neutrals - and while I might choose a slightly different shade or color I really don't mind any of the downstairs colors. The upstairs though..has some strong color choices. Primarily, the baby's room. It's bright. REALLY bright. I will not miss that color.

The bathroom is green, and not a bad green, but the cabinets need painting and if we're painting...we might as well do the walls.

The guest room is brown - and again, not the worst brown - but everything in the room is brown. Ceiling and all. I considered just painting the ceiling...but decided just to do it all.

Yesterday the guys did patching and trim painting, so there's not much progress to speak of. But I'm already in love with the color. Next up, nursery decorating. Part of me is super excited to finally create an adorable baby nursery (7 months late albeit) and part of me kind of liked having an excuse for having not done it yet...Pinterest, here I come.

Making way for baby: Nursery decor (and I need your help!)

You may recall about a month ago that I won a 4 piece bumperless baby bedding set (say that 5 times fast!)  from Liz and Roo Fine Baby Bedding. While I SO excited to pick out my bedding set, I must admit that I am totally overwhelmed by all the adorable options! This is where you come in. I have managed to narrow down my favorite fabric, and now I just need to determine which ones will use for the rail cover, crib skirt, and crib blanket. I know that I will not use the crib blanket in the very beginning, so I am leaning towards using on of the more 'coordinating' patterns for the blanket.

Here are the swatches I love the most:

(L to R) easton geometric print, houndstooth, and suzani

The easton print does have the seafoam/blue color on it, and its on the very edge of this swatch (which I'm trying to show here...)

Here are a few stock photos so you can see how Liz and Roo have styled these patterns.

monogrammed houndstooth pillow on top of the suzani blanket

Crib skirt in houndstooth

rail cover in suzani, blanket in suzani, and skirt in houndstooth

blanket in suzani

rail cover and skirt in houndstooth, and blanket in suzani

Easton print blanket

A few thoughts about each of these...

Although it does not really appear to match - all three fabrics have the same blue/green in them. (Some lighting makes the suzani look really blue). I don't think I want my rail cover and blanket to match. While in Greenville a few weeks ago I put together the fabrics in one ensemble that I'm not sure I love any more, but here it is:

Excuse how messy it looks, we were using a blanket as a skirt and a skirt as a 'blanket' in our staging...

I feel like the suzani print is what ties the 3 prints together the most, which makes me think if the blanket were not with the set, it might look awkward. This led me to making the rail cover in the suzani instead of the blanket, the houndstooth as the skirt, and the easton as the blanket. What do you think? I'm open to suggestions!!

M
