Playing with Pastels

So this Thoughts for Thursday has me thinking (more like dreaming) about fall. While I'll totally be rubbing it in that its still warm here throughout the winter, just know that I'm super jealous that most of the U.S. gets to have fall....so, here we go!

The end of summer is no where in site for me, but the rest of you are slowly starting to prepare for the transition to fall as September creeps up on us. I always find that this transitional time of year is the hardest to dress for - especially if you're like me, and live in white. Once its mid-September wearing white and summery prints can be tricky - even though in states like South Carolina where its still 85 degrees. Lately I've noticed, and I'm sure you have too, that the color palate for the summer was focused on more muted hues and feminine prints. These colors and prints are the perfect items to carry you through summer and into fall.  I picked out several items that look great on summer bronzed skin and would pair well with your favorite white jeans - but, could also be paired with more earthy neutrals to take you into early fall.  One item in particular in this collection is my favorite (no, its not the crop top) - the laser cut open toe bootie pump from Ann Taylor. Last fall I bought my first pair of open toe laser cut print booties by Via Spiga, and I adore them. They give you the cool comfort of a sandal, but look a little more 'fall-ish'. I wear mine year round, but for those of you with seasons, this is a great shoe to transition you.  To shop these looks, just click the links below!

Classic Florals

Floral patterns aren't just for Easter Sunday anymore. There are few things that are more 'classic' than a beautiful floral pattern. Sure, sometimes floral can be a little dowdy, or old fashioned, but done right this print can look chic and modern.  This flirty and feminine print can dress up a common striped shirt or dress or a plain solid dress.  I became completely hooked on florals when Ted Baker came out with the Luceey Pump (#5), and it has only gotten worse over the last few weeks! As of late, my favorite new floral piece is the zip printed leather floral clutch by K. Slademade (#3). You can dress it up with an adorable leather tassel as well. So cute!

These are just a few of my picks, what do you think? Would you rock a floral print?

Consignment Queen

My friends and family know that I CANNOT resist a good bargain on a designer item -  it is almost a competition for me to find even better buys with each shopping trip. This past weekend I struck gold once again at a local consignment shop.  I found 3 items by my favorite designers - Milly, Nanette Lepore, and Rebecca Taylor. Each of these pieces can be worn year round down here in Florida, but even if I were still in SC, I think I would get a TON of use out of each of these!

Consignment Queen by mattisonave featuring long sleeve ruched tops

1.Milly Bow Back Blouse: My first find was this black and hot pink charmeuse blouse with an adorable bow detail on the back.   This blouse still had a tag on it - (the price ripped off) - and never worn. It was priced at $55 and 50% off - so I got it for less than $30. I can't wait to wear it!

2. Rebecca Taylor Lilly of the Valley Dress: This corset piped dress is in cool fall tones, and is perhaps a couple seasons old and showed ZERO wear. This little gem was priced on sale at $40 -- I mean seriously?!

3. Nanette Lepore Deep Sea Corset Top: This chiffon top might be a little old, but its classic lines and styling make it a timeless piece.  I paired it with a pair of gold shorts to wear out on the town with the  hubbie last weekend and it was perfect! This was my cheapest find of the day for only $15!

I hope this inspires you to find your local consignment store and make someone else's 'trash' your treasure!

Pattern and Color mixing

Pattern and Color mixing
I just bought these leopard print shorts from JCrew, and I LOVE them. They are the perfect "base" for any outfit and I love that you can mix so many colors with them. I would put a bright top with the shorts and wear a flat (Rachel Zoe's Laura flat w/ Chain detail) for a day look. To glam it up, add a black blazer, pumps and one other bright color! Make sure never to do more than 2 colors when color blocking, and be sure to keep everything else neutral (see black shoes/blazer) so that you do look like a hot mess! :)
